Struggling with Big G Gamification
Hello everyone,
I am trying "big G" Gamification this year. I have a storyline, but I am struggling with keeping up with how often to give points, what to give points for, how to find the time to keep up with the points, etc. I teach high school English and have 5 classes with about 125 students total. I have tried to use the Gamification Control Tower, but I'm not sure what to give points for that won't take up much time in class or after school.
Please give me any suggestions or recommendations that you might have.
I don't know if this is any help at all, since I haven't run a game with that many classes at once, but how about having a fixed amount of points rewarded and then subtracting for poor behaviour or performance instead of adding for good?
Last year I had a class where I tried setting up a system that turned out to work pretty well. They were told points were given on the basis of behaviour the prior week and for finishing tasks/quests. They were also informed that points were announced first thing Monday morning, which gave me weekends to go over any papers that were handed in.
Tasks were small assignments that had to be handed in one way or the other, which meant I could add points in an excel doc as I read through them. However, points given for behaviour was actually a fixed amount each student would be rewarded each week, to feel a sort of natural progression in 'the game', a sort of passive income. I did this because it was easier for me to remember the few that had behaved out of line, broken rules or had skipped a lesson, than it was to remember how each and every student in the class had performed.
As I remember it, the system was something like 5 points for actively taking part in lessons each day, which meant 20-25 points could be earned per week, if you showed up on time and showed a bit of interest.
