Hi Folks! We’ve Got HUGE News to Share…
We are absolutely thrilled to let you in on something we’ve been working on behind the scenes for a long time. After months of writing, refining, and pouring everything we’ve learned about playful pedagogy into one place, we’re excited to officially announce our brand-new book: Playing with Purpose: Universal Design for Learning in an Age of Change — arriving December 2025.
This book is our answer to the moment teachers find themselves in right now: navigating an ever-shifting landscape of technology, AI, and innovation while still striving to create learning experiences rooted in strong pedagogy and genuine human connection. As our developmental editor put it, the book “lays out the vast breadth of possibilities for implementing play in the classroom” and offers “a truly comprehensive resource for educators from early elementary through college.” But more than that, we believe that Playing with Purpose is making an argument that the future of education isn’t about chasing shiny new tools, but about using creativity, curiosity, and the power of play to help students thrive in a world where the only constant is change.
That’s the heart of this book: a roadmap for teaching that meets this moment. Whether it’s mind maps or robots, board games or AI-powered cosplay, the message is the same — playful learning, grounded in UDL, gives every student a chance to shine. And we cannot wait for you to have this in your hands.
As we count down the days until the book arrives, we didn’t want to waste any time in helping teachers begin putting these ideas into action. So we rolled up our sleeves, went back into more than fifty of our most popular EMC² Learning resources, and rebuilt them from the ground up with full UDL-inspired upgrades — directly shaped by the strategies in Playing with Purpose. Every one of these refreshed activities now includes a complete set of teacher-friendly planning tools designed to make your lessons more dynamic, more inclusive, and more intentionally student-centered… right out of the box.
Instead of asking teachers to retrofit accommodations or scramble for differentiation ideas on the fly, we’ve embedded them straight into the DNA of each resource. The result? Activities that launch faster, adapt easier, and align instantly with the principles of Universal Design for Learning.
At the heart of each upgraded template, you’ll now find an Imagination Idea Bank — more than two dozen ready-made options for Action & Expression that you can pop, swap, mix, or match as needed. Want students to sketch? Sing? Build? Compare? Debate? Code? The quickstart instructions for each approach are baked right into the resource, waiting for you to tailor them to your content, standards, or students. Whether you’re offering meaningful choice, differentiating for readiness, or pushing deeper creative thinking, these UDL-infused upgrades help teachers play with purpose — making learning richer, more flexible, and more accessible for every student in the room.
Big book. Big upgrades. Big things ahead. And we can’t wait to take this next chapter on the adventure with you.
Stay tuned for exclusive news about the book’s release date and our exclusive PRE-ORDER BONUS resources which we’ll be sharing in just a few short weeks!
