LET'S GET HOPPING!
In this egg hunt-themed inspired review game, students divide into competing teams of heroic egg hunters to retrieve as many locked eggs as they can find as they unlock each egg’s hidden secrets before time runs out! This activity can be modified for any course or content area, and setup is a snap using the three-step process outlined below:
STEP 1.
Download the #EggDashChallenge activity template (Google Slides) to set the stage for your epic review challenge! We’ve included fully illustrated instructional slides along with a countdown timer (set for 40 minutes as a default). Which colorful of heroes will recover the most egg-citing surprises?
STEP 2.
Use page 1, 2 and 3 of the editable template included in the download (see the link on slide #6) to write out as many questions as you’d like for your current unit of study. Consider printing one copy of page 4 as “bonus” questions to be inserted in additional plastic Easter Eggs. Then print one copy of the last page of the template for each team of students to use as a team manifest to keep score for their game.
STEP 3.
Print the questions you’ve written out in the boxes on page 1 of the activity template and cut them into horizontal strips. Each question goes into a separate plastic Easter Egg (or you can use paper envelopes). Keep all the eggs and their paper clues in a large centrally located bin (a.k.a. “Egg Basket”) in the middle of your classroom. Then it’s GAME ON!
THE RULES:
+ Students work in teams with 4-5 classmates in desk groups
+ Place the “Egg Basket” (bin of plastic eggs) in the center of the room.
+ Start a timer on the overhead board. Highest point total by the end wins!
REMINDERS:
+ Consider awarding different point values for more challenging questions. These scores are kept secret throughout the activity, but will revealed at the very end of the game (slide #5). This helps reward student groups willing to put forth sustained effort on trickier problems!
+ Keep things safe by reminding teams that they are ONLY allowed to solve questions while seated with their desk group (no “texting and driving,” so to speak).
